Getting to the Naples Underground Entrances
Four undergrounds, four doors, and two of them on the same square. Turning up at the wrong one is the single most common thing that goes wrong on the day, and it is entirely avoidable. Here is where each entrance is, what it looks like and how the four connect on foot.
Piazza San Gaetano 69 and 316 are not the same door
This is the one to get right. Number 69 is Napoli Sotterranea: a narrow lane off the square with a carved sign over the entrance and, usually, a queue on the pavement. Number 316 is the Complesso Monumentale di San Lorenzo Maggiore, whose ticket office opens onto the same piazza and whose excavation — the Neapolis Sotterrata — is a completely different site ten metres down.
A traveller review of the official route puts the direction better than a map does: face the basilica and take the small road on the left, not the entrance across the square.
Check the street number on your booking before you leave, not when you arrive. The two operators do not share tickets, and neither will honour the other’s booking — what each one includes is on the undergrounds.

Where each tour meets you
Meeting points are not the same as entrances. Half the departures here gather in a public square and walk to the door, which is why the address on your booking may be nowhere near the underground it enters.

See every departure and its meeting point
By metro, funicular and on foot
Line 1 does most of the work. Dante and Museo both put you five to ten minutes from Piazza San Gaetano, walking east along via dei Tribunali or down via Toledo and cutting in. Toledo — worth seeing in its own right — is the closest stop to the Spanish Quarters and to Piazza Trieste e Trento. For the Catacombs of San Gennaro, take Line 1 to Museo and then either the bus up Via Capodimonte or a twenty-five minute walk into the Sanità.
The historic centre is pedestrian in practice if not always on paper. Nothing in this list is more than half an hour’s walk from anything else in it.

Arriving from the port or Napoli Centrale
From the cruise terminal at Molo Beverello, Piazza Municipio is a five-minute walk and Piazza Bellini about twenty — a traveller on one of the small-group walks times exactly that. Two of the listings here meet at Piazza Municipio, which makes them the straightforward choice on a short call.
From Napoli Centrale, Line 1 to Dante or Museo takes about ten minutes, or walk west along Corso Umberto and turn up into the old town at via Duomo.

Toledo on metro Line 1 is the closest stop. Visits on this route leave from Piazza Trieste e Trento, by Bar Gambrinus, rather than from the door itself.
